There are a number of popular events which take place in and around Inverness with many drawing huge numbers of visitors to the area every year. Some of the most popular include the Loch Ness Marathon which is now rated in the top 10 best marathons in the world, the Inverness Highland Games, Belladrum, Blas Festival and Rock Ness.
20 August 2016: Nairn Half Marathon is run by the beach and harbour before heading through open countryside along a fairly flat and scenic course.
27 August 2016: Glenurquhart Highland Games at Blairbeg Park, Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness another popular games.
30 August – 4 September 2016: Nairn Book & Arts Festival. Nairn’s celebration of literature, drama, art, film and music beside the Moray Firth.
1 & 2 September 2016: Northern Meeting Piping Competitions is a solo piping contest with pipers from all over Northern Scotland taking place from 8am to 5pm each day.
3 September 2016: Beast Race at Loch Ness is a 10k obstacle race over rough terrain, dirt tracks and forest.
4 – 12 September 2016: Blas Music Festival. Check out the website to see venue and performers.
25 September 2016: Loch Ness Marathon plus 5K and 10K River Ness fun runs. The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon takes place along the shores of Loch Ness. Book accommodation early as everywhere gets booked up quickly.
1 -16 October 2016: Highland Archaeology Fortnight. A unique annual event, celebrating archaeology and heritage in the Highlands area.
30 & 31 October 2016: Halloween Show Ness Islands. The biggest Halloween Party in the Highlands and a great event for all the family.
5 November 2016: Civic Bonfire And Fireworks Display. The Highland’s biggest bonfire with a 20 minutes fireworks display and free admission.
November 2016: Inverness Film Festival Eden Court. Check out the Eden Court Theatre website for full details and ticket prices.
20 November 2015: Christmas Lights Switch On. Christmas Carols and Traditional Scottish music from 5.30pm against the backdrop of a spectacular projection show which brings the Town House to life with animations just in time for the arrival of Santa Claus.
16 – 18 December 2016: Winter Wonderland. Santa with Rudolph and his Reindeer friends bring a touch of Christmas magic to the Highland Capital.
31 December 2016: The Red Hot Highland Fling. See in 2017 at The Northern Meeting Park with a spectacular concert featuring various artists.
February 2017: Snowman Rally is Round 1 of the Scottish Rally Championship.
March 2017: Inverness Half Marathon will once again take place around the city.
April 2017: Inverness Whisky Festival will be back at Bogbain Farm for its fourth year giving you the chance for a tour as well as whisky tasting, music, food and dance.
April 2017: Glenlivet 10k Road Race follows the scenic route from the distillery around the glen with stunning views.
July 2017: Inverness Highland Games in Northern Meeting Park is a popular event for locals and tourists alike and is renowned for being the best of the Highland games.
July 2017: Nairn Show provides a great selection of entertainment with livestock exhibitions, craft fair, food fair, show jumping, trade stands, cookery demonstrations and much more.
August 2017: Black Isle Show at Mannsfield Showground, Muir of Ord is the biggest agricultural show in the North of Scotland and is hugely popular. Book accommodation early.
August 2017: Belladrum – Tartan Heart Festival on the Belladrum Estate near Beauly. The event is an outdoor music festival for all the family with rock, country, blues and world music.
August 2017: Highland Field Sports Fair at Moy Hall The fair at Moy Village offers entertainment and activity for old and young. Largely field sports activities but also competitions with fly casting, gun dog handling and clay pigeon shooting.
